The water, the sand, the sun, the music and the fun
At Uptown Shelby’s “Alive After Five” Blues Night, this past Thursday, one of the most familiar sights was kids with their Kidsville News yellow punch balloons. Here, punching their way around the court square are Brandon and Martin! The afternoon featured two of the area’s most popular bands, the Contagious Blues Band and Amissville.
After 33 dedicated years at Carter Chevrolet, Barry Crotts (right) is pictured with his successor and new parts manager, Bobby Hollifield. Barry said he’s going to spend time “hanging out with my two brothers, Tim and Milton and enjoy being with my wife of 38 years, Judy at home with my family.” Mr. Crotts started as a counter man at Carter Chevrolet in 1977. Best of luck Barry!
While Shelby Big Lots’ manager, Nick Armold, is on assignment with the U. S. Navy for a year, Assistant Manager, Gary Wellborn, (pictured) will be in charge of the store and he’s up to the challenge. With the help of his dedicated management team and staff, they plan to continue offering great service and prices to all Big Lots customers.
Heather Lanning, age 9, grew this head of cabbage from a plant that she received from Mrs. Lloyd’s 3rd grade class at Elizabeth Elementary School. She grew the plant in her grandpaw’s (George Ledford) garden. It measured 22 inches round.
Melvin Tate, pictured, and Connell Smiley team up to garden together. The pair gardens a one acre plot in Shelby, where they grow cucumbers, squash, green beans, butter beans, corn, okra, bell pepper, hot pepper, cantaloupe and 3 kinds of watermelon. They give most of the produce away to senior citizens and people in need.
