Brother Rocky Shelton got the name Rocky from the boxing heavyweight champion of the world, Rocky Marciano. His dad liked the champ and said that’s what he would name his son. The name Rocky truly befits this man because he is a fighter. You could say, he got knocked out but finally got up and became the champ he is today.
Our week #17 Shelby Shopper & Info Football Contest winner was Butch Mathis of Gaffney, SC. Butch is a Carolina Panthers fan and he loves the South Carolina Gamecocks. His ballot was the only one received picking 11 out of 12 games correctly.

Roger David Ledford, age 61, of Forest City, NC, died January 1, 2013 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
As a young adult, I remember fishing the river bank at Mr. MacDonald’s farm. He was an older man whose property ran along the river. I don’t remember how we first discovered this place but it seemed to not upset him when we set up camp on his farm.
Piecemakers Quilt Guild
Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Lincoln County Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, NC, in room 319. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting.
Martin Luther King, Jr. once wrote, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the entire staircase”. These words of inspiration will also serve as the theme of “Faith” for this year’s Martin Luther King Day Photography Contest & Exhibit, Monday, January 21 in Kings Mountain. The show will be previewed to the public during the special opening exhibit and reception with the artists that evening at 6 pm in the Kings Mountain City Hall lobby. The event is free and open to the public.
