On July 27th, members of Pack 101 Cub Scouts and their cub masters from First Baptist Church chose to spend their Saturday morning picking up litter in the center city area of uptown Shelby.

Mrs. Jackie Bridges Sisk, 77, of 1108 Old Charles Road, Shelby went home to be with the Lord on August 4, 2013.
The retirees were on Lake Norman last week. Ronnie Humphries picked up the win with a catch of 10.12. David O’Shields and Doug Sparrow had 8.11 and claimed second place. Ken Johnson and Fred Wright had 6.13 to settle in third.
Zion/Shoals Men’s Softball team won the NC USSSA Class D Church State Championship this past weekend in Rock Hill SC.
The Vietnam Moving Wall was recently in my area. Hundreds of individuals visited this monument in a period of 3 days. Several civilian and veteran volunteers assisted visitors as they searched for the names of those who died in that war. Wayne was one of those Vietnam veteran volunteers.
The Upper Cleveland 12U All-Stars represented Cleveland County in the WNC Cal Ripken 12U 46/60 State Tournament July 12-14 in Newton, NC. The team finished in 3rd place.

Piecemakers Quilt Guild
Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Lincoln County Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, NC, in room 319. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting. Visitors and new members are welcome. We also have a new class that meets on the second Thursday of each month from 10:00am to 3:00pm to provide one to one instruction to beginning quilters. The Uptown Shelby Association recently announced that Raleigh native Audrey Whetten will become the organization’s new Executive Director. Whetten will join USA after working for two years in Clinton, North Carolina as a City Planner and Main Street staff member.
