The Cleveland County Arts Council is pleased and excited to announce that the 11th Annual Art of Sound Music Festival will return this year a month earlier – Sept. 19 through 21. The Arts Council Board of Directors and Festival organizers feel that the move will allow the Festival to return to its roots of showcasing excellence in the work of all types of musicians from the local area and beyond.

The retirees were on Lake Norman this week and reports that part of the lake is turning over which made for some tough fishing. John Black and Roger McNeely picked up the win again with a total of 8.9. They also had big bass of the day with a 3.0 largemouth. James Osborne and Ray Hembree took second with 8.3 and Ronnie Humphries was third with 4.3. This week the codgers head to Lake Wylie and hope to have better catches to report.

For the second year, the Bar H Arena International Demolition Derby, which was held Sept. 7th and 14th, featured a special Church Demo Derby on the final evening. Local churches were invited to find businesses or individuals to provide and sponsor demolition derby cars for inexperienced drivers that represented each church.
She is young, a UNC Chapel Hill graduate, and in one word “refreshing”. This is new Executive Director of Uptown Shelby Association, Audrey Whetten.
