Ascension Lutheran Church, Shelby
Ascension Lutheran Church, 300 N. Lafayette Street, Shelby, NC will be presenting Desert Days" which will happen on the second Friday in February 9, 2018, April, June, August and October and December from 9:30 am - 2:30pm. Each "desert day" is designed to encourage and provide space for men and women to be alone with God in silence, to listen for whatever God might want to say. In the spirit. Join them in the fellowship hall of Ascension Lutheran Church (300 N. Lafayette Street, Shelby) for dinner Tuesday, February 13, 2018, 6:30pm on Shrove Tuesday, the last night before Lent begins. Potatoes, butter and sour cream will be provided. Please bring a favorite topping to share.
Ash Wednesday, February 14, 2018 is the beginning of the penitential season of Lent. Worship at 12:30 (Service of the Word) or at 7:00pm (Holy Communion) and receive the imposition of ashes. The sign of the ashes remind us of our human mortality and frailty and that we receive God's mercy and forgiveness.

St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Shelby will be holding a Friday fish fry (open to the public) on the following Fridays: February 16th, February 23rd, March 2nd, March 9th, March 16th and March 23rd, 2018. Hours are 5:30pm to 8:00pm at the St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church hall, 818 McGowan Rd, Shelby, NC 28150. The event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 11946, Shelby. Fish fry, complete meal: $8 adult, $4 child's portion. Food can be enjoyed in our parish hall or can be made to go. Family value: Any size family $25 (dine in only) Meal includes: Two pieces of fried fish (only one in child's portion) served with french fries, hush-puppies, coleslaw, and choice of drink. Aldersgate United Methodist Women will be hosting a Women's Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, February 17, 2018 to be held in the Epworth Building at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1207 W. Dixon Blvd. Come hear the heat warming story of how the children of Kenya came to live in the Children's Home. Executive Director, Larry Wilson of this wonder children's home will share with us how the devastating disease of HIV/Aids decimated and entire generation of Kenyan children. Over 2 million were left with out homes or care. They invite you to join them for food, fellowship and prayer, for the needs and concerns facing our churches and the world. Cost: $7 per person. "Truth & Tea Time" Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Shelby
"Truth and Tea Time" will be held at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 198 Pleasant Ridge Church Road, Shelby, NC, Tuesday, February 20, 2018, 6:15-8:15pm. LaLisa Carpenter is the wife of Craig, the mother of eight children (three biological and five adopted). Lalisa is currently a family nurse practitioner at McDowell Medical Center in Marion, NC. She has led several medical mission teams with Hands on Missions in Shelby, NC. Her life, like many, has had its difficulties. She watched her mother battle dementia, was herself diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. However, nothing would prepare her for the illness and death of one of her children. Join them as LaLisa discusses how God's grace has brought her through and continues to carry her through some of the darkest days of her life. New Prospect Baptist Church is prayerfully seeking a Part-time Music Director and Organist to help lead an engaging time of worship for the congregation. The ideal persons should have a personal relationship with Christ. The Director would be responsible for choosing music and leading the choir and congregation in worship on Sunday morning, Sunday night, special events and choir practice on Wednesday evenings.
