James Hunt Hannah, Jr., age 101, died Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at his home. Mr. Hannah was born August 18, 1916 in Roanoke, VA to James Hunt Hannah, Sr. and Martha Petty Hannah. He grew up in Greensboro and married Jean Kiser on June 18, 1937.
Hunt served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After leaving the military Hunt settled in Greensboro where he worked in the Engineering Department for the city until 1962; 25 years of service. Then Hunt moved to Cleveland County and worked in the tax mapping department for 15 years before retiring in 1982.
In addition to his parents, Hunt is predeceased by Jean, his wife of 73 years, and his sister, Mary T. Hannah.
Hunt is survived by his three children; Martha Tuner and her husband Steve of Charlotte, Mamie Leemon of Greensboro, James Hunt Hannah, III and his wife Wendy of Lake Wales, FL; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
A private service will be held in Greensboro at a later date.
